The Tefuye Historic Trail, located in Alishan Township, Chiayi County, was originally a hunting trail opened by the Tsou people. During the Japanese colonial period, the trail was converted into the "Shuishan Line" railway for transporting timber, and many railway relics still remain.
The front section of the trail is relatively flat, with Cryptomeria japonica trees planted along the way, creating beautiful scenery; the back section is a steep, stepped trail with wooden sleepers, which is a broad-leaved primeval forest. The landscape changes with each season and the flora and fauna are rich, making it an excellent bird-watching trail.
Drive along County Road 169 towards Dabang and Tefuye; after entering the image gate at the entrance of Tefuye Village, turn right and the trail entrance will come into view. The trail is 1.6 kilometers long and is a recreational trail suitable for all ages.
Along the way, you can hear the chirping of birds such as the Chestnut-backed Robin, Wine-red Rosefinch, Gold-winged White-browed Thrush, etc., or you can spot the Coal Tit, Blue-backed Tit, Red-headed Tit, Fire-crowned Goldfinch and Crested Thrush on the branches of cherry blossoms in spring.
