Chuanjia Salty Congee is a popular local breakfast spot in Tainan's Anping District, located at No. 410 Qingping Road, near Wangyue Bridge. It's open daily from 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Despite its discreet appearance and lack of a prominent sign, it's a popular spot for both locals and foodies, often attracting long lines during mealtimes.

Signature dishes include milkfish and oyster congee, braised pork rice, and crispy fish rice. The milkfish and oyster congee uses fresh daily fish, creating a naturally sweet broth with fried garlic and celery for a fragrant aroma. The braised pork rice is primarily fatty, simmered until melt-in-your-mouth, and a soft-boiled egg is recommended for a smoother texture. The crispy fish rice combines braised pork with crispy fish cakes, creating a unique blend of sweet and savory flavors.

Side dishes like braised tofu, meatballs, and sausages are all reasonably priced, flavorful, and generously portioned. Soups like fish ball soup also feature fried dough sticks and fried garlic, creating a rich, complex flavor. Seating is located in the arcade and at the bar. The restaurant is clean and tidy, with sauce bottles kept clean, creating a welcoming and comfortable dining atmosphere.

In 2024, Chuan Jia Salty Congee was recommended by the Michelin Guide, becoming a representative of Tainan's street food scene. Whether you're looking for milkfish dishes or want to experience Tainan's breakfast culture, Chuan Jia Salty Congee is a great option worth waking up early to visit.
