Originally named the "Mystic Valley Trail," it was renamed Shakadang in 2001. The Shakadang Valley was once home to the Taroko people, and the trail's signage features explanations in the Taroko language, showcasing both the beauty of the landscape and its people.

Originally, the Shakadang Trail was only accessible to visitors who could walk to the Five Houses and then turn back. Following restoration, the trail now allows visitors to walk straight from the entrance to the Three Houses destination. The trail is approximately 4.1 kilometers long, and a round trip takes approximately 4 to 6 hours. The Shakadang River's riverbed is covered with large and small boulders, with marble and gneiss being the most common. This, combined with the blue-green water and the rock-hewn trail along the mountainside, creates a breathtaking view along the way.

About 1.5 kilometers from the trailhead, "Five Houses" was formerly known as "Swiji," referring to the large-leaved banyan trees. Because the five indigenous homes on the site of the former checkpoint were home to the five houses, it's also called "Five Houses," where local residents sell agricultural products. At the end of the trail is "Three Houses," once a settlement of the Taroko people. The site earned its name from the three houses, but the Taroko people call it "Brayaw," meaning "taro," evoking the image of a landscape filled with taro.

[198,210,182

0":"post-43900","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"hentry","7":"category-taroko-light-hiking","8":"category-210","9":"category-special-itinerary","10":"category-198","12":"category-182","13":"description-off
["GET
