This section of Taroko Gorge is the most scenic. After passing the Zhuilu Cliff, the winding river valley creates a serpentine, deep gorge with twists and turns. The highway, carved into the mountain walls, twists and turns through the caves, creating a seemingly endless series of detours. Hence the name "Nine-Turn Cave," not because of the nine caves, but simply to describe the numerous bends. Once inside, the scenery of the mountains and waters is completely cut off. The winding road reveals only the solid rock formations, while caves near the stream offer glimpses of the canyon's scenery. The marble on the opposite side of the canyon, with its various patterns, from dark gray to pure white, offers a rich tapestry of possibilities.
