If you haven’t been to Liuhe Night Market, you haven’t truly been to Kaohsiung.
As early as 1950, a number of food stalls began to gather on the open space near Dagangpu in what is now Kaohsiung's Xinxing District. Gradually, these stalls grew and became known as the "Dagangpu Night Market," a place renowned for its local snacks. This market then expanded, becoming the current Liuhe Night Market. Liuhe Night Market is not far from Kaohsiung Railway Station. Walk straight along Zhongshan Road for about ten minutes, then turn right onto Liuhe Road.
During the day, this area is a straight thoroughfare, but at night, it transforms into a bustling market. Liuhe Night Market, renowned for its diverse snacks, is most notable for its numerous steak and seafood restaurants. Over a dozen large and small shops boast affordable, family-style steak sets. The two rows of stalls offer a dazzling array of produce, seafood, local specialties, cold drinks, and ice cream. The diverse selection of snacks is renowned throughout Taiwan. Don't miss Kaohsiung's signature papaya milk and salt-steamed shrimp.
Kaohsiung's Liuhe Night Market has successfully cultivated an image as an internationally renowned culinary and tourism destination, creating a new destination for leisure and consumption. Its hardware design integrates Kaohsiung's unique harbor city culture, effectively fostering a sense of identity among vendors and consumers. Its software initiatives foster a sense of community and motivation among vendors and the management committee, actively promoting uniform uniforms and stall signs, and implementing the service industry's philosophy of "enhancing customer satisfaction" to forge a successful path. In recent years, the city government has actively organized a series of events at the internationally renowned Liuhe Night Market, including the "Traditional Market Gets Young" and "Liuhe Food Carnival," to expand business opportunities within the market.
