Located in Alishan Township, Chiayi County, the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, at an altitude of approximately 2,216 meters and covering 1,388 hectares, is Taiwan's most iconic alpine forest attraction. The park is renowned for its "Five Wonders": sunrise, sea of clouds, sunset glow, sacred trees, and the forest railway, attracting visitors from both domestic and international communities.
The park boasts renowned attractions such as the Alishan Forest Railway, the Giant Trees Boardwalk, Sister Pond, and the Zhushan Sunrise Observation Platform. The most iconic of the sacred trees is the Xianglin Sacred Tree, towering 45 meters and over a thousand years old. Cherry blossoms bloom in spring, fireflies can be seen in summer, and crimson maple leaves and seas of clouds can be admired in autumn and winter, making it a year-round destination.
The park boasts a rich ecology, home to rare animals such as the Taiwan macaque, the emperor pheasant, and the Alishan robins, as well as native plant species such as the red cypress and the Taiwan spider orchid. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely tour by train or electric car, or hike along the trails to connect with nature.
